Public Voluntary Register of Sonographers

Introduction

The College of Radiographers (CoR) administers a Public Voluntary Register for those individuals practising as sonographers. Individuals may have their name entered on this register which will help members of the public and employers to confirm that the sonographer undertaking their examination is appropriately qualified..

Please note that whilst processes are in place to check qualifications, current practice and on-going continuing professional development, acceptance on to this voluntary register does not in itself authenticate competence or fitness to practice. For further details please see the Policy and Processes PDF which can be found at the bottom of this page.

Please also note that there is no Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) benefit associated with the voluntary register. This must be obtained via an employer, membership of a professional body, or an insurance company. Details of the PII cover obtained via SCoR membership (for example) are available at www.sor.org/being-member/professional-indemnity-insurance

New Applications

The application form for new applicants can be found here. Please note the SCoR will not continue to run the PVRS beyond February 28th 2021. Please see here for information on the transfer of the PVRS to the Register of Clinical Technologists.

The last date we can accept applications to the PVRS if not holding standard UK ultrasound qualifications (Section C of application form) is 31st December 2020.

We can continue to accept Section C (standard UK qualifications) up to February 1st 2021.

The RCT will open for their primary route applications (CASE accredited awards) on 11th January 2021. The RCT will be able to accept non-primary route applications requiring submission of a portfolio via the RCT equivalence route from March 1st 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions on the PVRS to RCT transfer for sonographers currently listed on the PVRS and who wish to transfer are available here. There is also general information within the FAQs on registration issues which will be of interest to all sonographers.

Search for your Sonographer

To search for an individual, please enter their surname into the search box. This will identify all individuals with that surname along with the location of their workplace. In order to protect individuals only limited information will be viewed and it is not possible to search on any criteria other than a known surname. In the past, scope of practice was also displayed here, but this is no longer the case although we do hold the information in our database.

If you have any enquiries with regards to the voluntary register, please contact the Society and College of Radiographers via PVRS@sor.org or telephone the membership department at 020 7740 7200, option 1.

Please Note: An asterisk (*) after the voluntary registrant’s name indicates that they have been admitted to the register with a ‘preceptorship’ annotation. A double asterisk (**) after the voluntary registrant’s name indicates that they have been admitted to the voluntary register solely relating to the practice of musculoskeletal ultrasound. For details see ‘Policy and Processes’ document (Scroll down to bottom of this page) or contact us.
