PPE posters for imaging and oncology teams

15 April, 2020

Two posters offering advice for imaging and oncology departments have been jointly published by the College of Radiographers and the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR).

The posters, Personal protective equipment advice for imaging and oncology departments and teams, offer advice for aerosol generating procedures or high-risk areas and general contact with confirmed or possible Covid-19 cases.

"We welcome collaborating with the RCR on this important guidance for all professionals and support staff working across imaging and oncology,” Charlotte Beardmore, the College of Radiographer’s director of professional policy, said.

“The safety of professionals and patients during this pandemic and within this sustained transmission phase is of utmost importance. We hope this guidance provides clarity for both imaging and oncology services.”

RCR president, Dr Jeanette Dickson, commented, “We welcomed PHE‘s recent update of national guidance on PPE-usage relating to coronavirus, which reflected the changing disease risk profile among the population.

“However, treatment areas in imaging departments and cancer centres have more variables than in a hospital ward setting, particularly as a mix of in- and outpatients are seen and treated in the same areas.

“We wanted to produce accessible follow-on guidance so that our members appreciate what PPE is needed in various scenarios, and were pleased to work alongside CoR to provide advice and support for all members of imaging departments and cancer care teams.”

The imaging and oncology posters are now available to download from the RCR website.
